Privacy policy

How American Public Voice handles your information.

Effective date: October 14, 2026. This policy covers americanpublicvoice.org and the American Public Voice Survey, operated by American Public Voice PAC (“APV,” “we”).

What we collect

Survey answers. ZIP code, city, state, the answers you choose and anything you write in the open-text fields.

Optional contact information. First name, last name, email address and mobile phone number, only if you provide them. The survey can be submitted without them.

Consent records. If you check the box agreeing to receive text messages, we record that you did, the wording you agreed to, its version, the page, the date and time, and, where lawfully collected, your IP address and browser type. Consent records are kept as an append-only log so that the history of your consent and any later opt-out is preserved.

Technical and attribution data. The page you arrived on, the referring site, campaign parameters in the link you used, and a general device category (mobile, tablet or desktop). Our web server also keeps standard access logs.

Contributions. When an online contribution page is available, contribution data will be collected by the payment processor named on that page and reported to the Federal Election Commission as required by law.

How we use it

  • To publish aggregate survey results with the methodology attached.
  • To contact you about APV's work if you asked us to, by the channels you agreed to.
  • To send text messages only if you gave separate, express consent, and to honor STOP requests.
  • To operate, secure and improve the site.
  • To comply with federal campaign finance law and other legal obligations.

What we publish

We publish survey results in aggregate. We never publish names, email addresses, phone numbers, IP addresses, device identifiers or any individual-level contact information. Written responses may be quoted only after review and anonymization. Geographic breakdowns are shown only when the number of responses meets a minimum threshold.

Sharing

We share information with service providers who host the site, deliver email and text messages, or process contributions, and who may use it only to provide those services. We disclose information when required by law, including reports to the Federal Election Commission. We do not sell personal information.

Text messages

Consent to receive text messages is optional, separate, and never a condition of completing the survey, donating or receiving information. Reply STOP to any message to opt out and HELP for assistance. Full program terms are in our SMS Terms.

Retention and security

Survey answers are kept separately from contact information. We retain records for as long as needed for the purposes above and as required by law. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards; no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Your choices

You can opt out of email through the unsubscribe link in any message, opt out of text messages by replying STOP, and ask us to correct or delete the contact information we hold about you by writing to info@americanpublicvoice.org. Some records must be kept to comply with law, including consent and opt-out history.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

We will post any changes on this page with a new effective date.
